Loughborough Council of Faiths was formed in 1996 to create a forum in which different faith communities can meet and work in the interests of the whole community.
Four Major Roles
- To show that people of different faiths can share peace
- To challenge all people of faith to adopt values of respect, tolerance and co-operation
- To allow people of different faiths to identify common areas of concern and action
- To point to the significance of faith issues and spirituality for today's society
Who Belongs
The members of the Council are the representatives from a number of faith communities in the town. The Christian churches are represented by Loughborough Churches Partnership. There are three Hindu temples, two mosques, and the Sikh Gurudwara. Included are Baha'i, Jews, Brahma Kumaris, Quakers, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Charnwood Grove of Druids.
In addition to the representatives there are groups such as Humanists who are welcome, and individuals whose contribution to Inter Faith has been recognised. We have invited them to be Friends of the Council.
Our AGM is traditionally open to everyone, though only representatives have a vote.
